: Ken Bonfield
-John Beland ---Flying Burrito Brothers
Ken Bonfield is not only a talented musician, he is an artist of the mind. His fingers magically move from string to string, creating vivid paintings which conjure up images and thoughts saturated with feelings. Originally a songwriter from the mid-west, Ken Bonfield became an award winning fingerstyle guitarist while living in Taos, New Mexico, in the early 90's. Touring with the vocal duo, NO LIMITS, brought him to Western North Carolina, where in 1994 the duo split up. In resurrecting his solo career, Ken began receiving more and more requests for an instrumental recording which yielded the CD Mystic Morning. Currently living in Boston, Ken tours nationally and has appeared in shows with Adrian Legg, Bill Mize, and Harvey Reid as well as making numerous appearances on the radio and TV, including ABC and National Public Radio.
Mystic Morning is a wonderfully soothing and magical collection of truly melodic songs only a guitar can sing. Ken Bonfield is not only an incredibly gifted fingerstyle guitarist, he is also an accomplished Americana guitarist, who writes music that is beautifully comforting and oftentimes hypnotic. His use of melody and rhythm has been coined, "songs only the guitar can sing -- songs only Ken can play."
Ken's guitar has a voice. It takes on the personification of a storyteller, leading his audience on journeys of imagination to which his music serves as the perfect underscore. The element that sets Ken apart from others, is that all of his songs are comfortably soothing. We, as listeners, seem to have been down this path before -- this music creates a feeling of home-coming.
"What I've tried to do with Mystic Morning is create songs without words. They're stories that only a guitar can tell. I believe you should never use words unless you have to."
