How often should I change my strings?

There’s no hard and fast rule here. Different string types, i.e. gut strings, synthetic core strings and steel strings, can be used for different lengths of time. The intensity of your playing, your technique, daily practice times, the pungency of your sweat, climatic conditions and structural conditions of the instrument will influence how long a specific string will last. Trust your ear. If you feel like your strings don’t sound like they did before or don’t respond as well as they used to, then change them. Especially if you’re having problems with fifth purity, because you can very quickly ruin your intonation as a result.
