Why can’t my string be tuned precisely anymore?

Due to the strong loading on a small subsection of the string by the left hand or sweat, the string’s winding is unevenly worn, or the string core unevenly stretched. As a result, the mass per length unit is no longer constant and the string can no longer be tuned precisely. The string must be replaced.
