Can a finetuner damage the string?

If a string has a loop, the fine tuner hook becomes sharp-edged during the course of a few months. As a result, the string can break off at the loop.

The solution? Regular maintenance of the fine tuner hook by a luthier. With a small file, the luthier can round off the sharp edges.
